Marcus finally turned the tablet toward Nathan, but he did not hand it over right away. Nathan stared at the screen.
The wet tarmac stretched behind them, bright under the vehicle lights. One of the SUVs idled nearby. Marcus kept one hand against the tablet and lowered his voice.

“I already know. She was recording Lily.”

Marcus finally released the tablet.
Nathan looked down.
The first video was the doorbell footage he had watched from the aircraft. Lily barefoot on the driveway. Unicorn pajamas. Tears on her cheeks. Meredith blocking the door. Mrs. Alvarez.

“I can see the upstairs light. Lily is at the window.”

“I will.”
The call ended.

He reached for the door before the SUV had fully stopped.
Marcus caught his arm.

Nathan looked at him.
“I’m not going in blind.”
“Exactly.”
Nathan nodded once and stepped out.
